Shining a light on eco living

It’s safe to say that eco living has passed from being the hot trend of the 00’s and is now simply best practice when it comes to building, buying, renting or renovating a home. It’s now expected that you’ll have dual flush toilets, energy saving heating devices and maybe even a water tank. This shift towards a more proactive and particular mindset is a great victory for Mother Nature!

Oftentimes, however, we can forgo eco considerations when it comes to aesthetics. Feeling comfortable, looking good and having the latest style is a big part of making a house a home. This is especially relevant for lighting, where the choice of lighting can greatly impact ambience.

But these two things – eco living and ambient lighting – no longer have to sit at odds with each other in your home or business space. Innovative lighting companies such as LEDified lighting are creating cutting edge products that are both design wise, practical, and most importantly, eco-friendly.

Take for example a standard Halogen bulb. They’ve become the ubiquitous lighting for most newer and luxury domestic and commercial settings. Did you know, however, that the average Halogen globe only lasts 2,500 hours, whereas the equivalent LED bulb would last 20 times longer – an incredible 50,000 hours. Furthermore, LED expends 80% less wattage for an equally luminous glow when compared to Halogens.

It may seem like a big effort to go from Halogen to LEDified LED lights, yet the savings for you and the planet could be massive, especially over your entire lifetime – I mean, we will be using indoor lighting for the rest of our lives!

You can’t, however, simply make the switch. An LEDified LED light needs an LED transformer. LED lights run from Halogen transformers will flicker and die quickly. So make sure you consult an expert for all the bits and pieces you need.

Beyond providing a great eco-friendly lighting option you can use across your entire house, LEDs can also be manipulated easier to create better ambience. Just look at the SweetBeams light. It’s a strip of LED lights that sticks to the underside of a bed to illuminate your room from beneath your bed. The nifty invention can also be activated by motion sensor if needed (perfect for new parents and young families) and you can use it as an energy-saving night light for little ones as it has an attachable timer.

LED lights represent a great new frontier in home living and interior design. Once viewed as sterile and unpersonal, the technology is now dynamic, adaptable, environmentally minded and of course, very stylish! So why not shine a light on your eco side and explore LEDified lighting today.
