MOONLIGHT CINEMA SYDNEY

By Tym • February 13, 2015 • Travel
Moonlight Cinema 1

Last night I went along to the Telstra Thanks Presents Moonlight Cinema, which runs in Sydney until the end of March in the Belvedere Amphitheatre, Centennial Park.

The whole set up is pretty simple to be honest: giant inflatable screen, fenced off-grassy slope and speakers, all which make for an evening of novelty fun, good times and even a few giggles – probably inspired by the mandatory people watching (humans just seem hilarious when they’re scouting for picnic spots).

We pitched a pretty sweet spread in the general admissions area, which is behind a ‘Gold Grass’ row of tiered beanbaggery, which you can gain access to for a little extra, but we were more than happy with good views somewhere towards the back.

There are stalls available to purchase snacks from, but you can also BYO pretty much everything. Screenings start at 8:30pm which generally leaves just enough time for you to finish work, hit up Thomas Dux and get across town to grab a decent place on the hill. We brought our own beach chairs, but you can hire beanbags on site – which, I must say, did look very comfortable. But nonetheless, we sat and feasted on our spread of berries and chocolate pretzels whilst Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and co. sung at us for two or so hours about how they wished, they wished, they wished they could go into the woods, or out of the woods, or through the woods, or something…

If the novelty of sitting outside to watch a movie doesn’t quite appeal to you, some of the evenings have themed nights such as cult classics, dress up nights, and bring along your dog – which applied to our night (including free doggy popcorn). But in my opinion, the appeal of the whole thing is just spending a few good hours in good company, doing something that you wouldn’t normally do.

So if you’re looking for a different kind of adventure, need an activity for date night or just want to sit in a park full of other people’s dogs, definitely have a browse at the remaining screening times here.
